Blizzard & Winter Storm Warnings For Upper-MS Valley

The weekend Winter Storm is just beginning this evening. Blizzard Warnings along with Winter Storm Warnings are now in effect for the Great Plains, Upper Mississippi Valley, and into the Great Lakes region. Places like Bismark, ND; Sioux Falls, SD; and Fargo, ND will pick up between 3 and 5 inches of snow by midday tomorrow. With that said, there will likely be a few spots that receive up to 7 inches or so of snow by late Saturday. The more intense weather which includes blizzard conditions will hold off until after midnight tonight and effect parts of South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa through tomorrow evening. Cities like Wheaton, MN; Milbank, SD; Mankato, MN; and Waterloo, IA could see wind gusts in excess of 50 mph along with heavy snow which will make travel conditions very, very hazardous, so stay off the roads if you can across this region until Sunday. Snowfall in excess of 6 inches is likely across most of the Blizzard Warning area by tomorrow evening/Sunday morning with some areas exceeding a foot. I would not be surprised to see a few areas reach 18 inches of snow, mainly across parts of MN & WI. Below, I have attached an updating image of the latest watches and warnings from NOAA/NWS. Also, I have included updating images of the latest weather story from the NWS offices in Aberdeen, Twin Cities, Des Moines, and La Crosse.
