Major Storm Beginning to Ride up the Coast

Heavy wind whipped rain is already falling all the way up to Nrn New England. The storms pressure is already down to 993mb!. This storm will likely end up in the 980-985mb range which is equivalent to a Cat 2 hurricane. Snow should begin failing in Central/Westrn PA between 10PM and 4AM, and spread into Nrn WV, NE OH and Western NY.

Not an extensive post mainly because I have no updates on the storm. I like where we are at right now, and it seems like this storm is going to be the real deal. Snowfall is really going to be the most destructive part of this storm with many down trees and numerous power outages! Also another threat is sea levels will be 3-5ft about normal. So Southern NJ, Long Island, may get some nasty bay flooding maybe a small tidal surge.

Here are the current watches and warnings.

As you can see, winter storm watches and warnings in PA, WV, OH and NY. And the the Flood watches and warning up in New England.

Here is my map…no changes:

So I think the highest snow totals will be in the 15-20″ range in western PA, and there will be widespread 6-12″ totals.
Major Major damage to trees and power lines. As many as 500,000+ customers could be without power after this storm is through.

Will have updates later on.

About the Author: Garrett Bastardi

I have been interested in the weather since the day I was born. I am the son of Joe Bastardi, and I am so thankful to have a great Dad and teacher like him. he knows the weather like the back of his hand, and he has really helped me get started with my dream of being a forecaster. ALthough he is my dad, with every forecast I am trying to beat him and put out a better forecast than him, which can be tough. In a few years I hope to attend the meteorology dept. at Texas A&M University. I have always dreamed of going to A&M. My grandfather earned a degree there and so thats where I want to study meteorology. Also I hope to get a full college scholarship in golf to A&M, I am an avid golfer and was the District 6 Champ, in PA for golf this year. I hope you have enjoyed reading about me, I am honored to be able to forecast on a site like Firsthand Weather!
