More than 200 people dead after a 7.2 earthquake rocks Haiti

At least 227 people have died after a 7.2 earthquake rocked Haiti Saturday.

The earthquake occurred 7 miles northeast of Saint-Louis-du-Sud and occurred at a depth of 6 miles according to the United States Geological Survey.

Reports from the ground indicate significant damage to all infrastructure, including homes, with numerous people trapped.

There is no tsunami threat to the Gulf Coast states of the United States, but videos from Haiti do show a significant receding of the water immediately after the earthquake occurred.

A 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti in 2010 (January 12) leaving close to 300,000 people dead.
